At FGC, Inc, we deliver residential construction projects with various price points based on client needs, industry demands, and location.

One of the more expensive parts of a construction project is the cost of materials. Unfortunately, each year, material costs are rising about 3 to 4 % and some as high as 7% — these rising costs can make future clients weary of starting a project. Luckily, there are things you can do reduce your material costs, while still providing a quality projects, during a residential build.

Choose prefabrication – Prefabricated components nearly eliminate waste and reduce labor costs as you only purchase and use what you need. For a residential project with prefabricated materials, you do not need as many workers on the job. The workers you do have can focus more on building rather than moving or measuring materials. With lower labor costs, you will be able to offset rising material costs on other materials that can’t be prefabricated or need to be specially made.

Choose lean design and construction – With a lean design and construction method, design and construction teams work together using software and tools to increase productivity and reduce waste, safety hazards, and increase profits.

Use Building Information Modeling (BIM) – BIM is the latest construction software that can help save you money as it helps you analyze all steps of a residential construction project, so you know what to expect. At all times, you will know how much materials you will need and how much they will cost, even if a change occurs. BIM allows you to better accurately create a budget and quote while also reducing material waste.

Use Construction Field Management Software – This type of software gives everyone (contractors, laborers, property owners, designers, stakeholders, etc.) access to drawings, blueprints nots, budgets, and other details. Everyone can always be on the same page. With this system, there is less chance of misunderstandings, so labor costs are reduced.

Unfortunately, you can’t always avoid using certain materials you need, but you can offset the costs by reducing your costs in other ways like we listed above.
